Because of an unlucky situation I found myself in, I felt that I needed to learn self defence and I felt compelled to learn fast. But in the late 1990s there was no program available to me. No DVD courses, online programs and barely any real help with traditional books. I had to attend classes.
I attended every class I could. I found every martial art class in my area and became a nomad of styles. As a kid I had studied Karate and Jui-Jitsu. With this affiliation to the Japanese styles I moved to Aikido and Judo. Then Hapkido, Choi Kwang Do, Taekwondo, Wing Chun Kung Fu... I keep trying new styles and new instructors. Then I started travelling further afield to learn more and from different people.
Something bothered me in the classes. There was too much tradition and spirituality in these styles. The respect based in the background of these martial arts ate into my training time. Bowing and learning numbers in the language were not relevant to my purpose... I just wanted the skills purely for self defence knowledge. I also noticed a steep learning curve. The movements and theories taught early were the simplest and most relevant in self defence, and they formed the basis for everything that followed, but what followed was long plateau of repetition and the slow introduction of new techniques and minor adaptations. At the time repetition was the main method of teaching and learning.
My close combat skills rapidly accelerated when I started training as a Bodyguard.
This is when I was first introduced to Krav Maga.

The why, the how & the what
Why I do what I doTeaching self defence is deeply personal to me. I believe that everyone has the right to walk in peace and with confidence.
|
How I do what I doI use a variety of interesting methods to accurately transfer the details, knowledge and skills to my students.
|
What I doI break the status quo about how to teach combat skills. My students are open minded and ready to absorb the knowledge.

Life is valuable, learn to protect it
Benjamin trained extensively and certified as an instructor with the British Krav Maga Association. He is also a fully qualified and professional Bodyguard, and so he is not a typical part time hobby instructor. He is trained in Krav Maga, close protection operations and has qualifications in teaching. At The Krav Maga Club of Stavanger and Sandnes you can train to become your own bodyguard, learn to protect yourself, your friends and your family.
Benjamin is a Bodyguard, using Krav Maga on a professional level as well as for self defence and fitness training. In 2012 he opened the Stavanger region's most realistic self defence club, The Krav Maga Club of Stavanger and Sandnes. After many years in Martial Arts, Combat Sports and Krav Maga Ben passed what is believed to be Europe's hardest and most credible instructor training course. And in 2015 he began teaching remotely via Skype to a student who couldn't attend classes. He is an advocate for the use of Krav Maga and cannot praise it high enough for its effectiveness and simplicity. When asked about the classes, Benjamin said, "I teach Krav Maga, I give ordinary people extraordinary skills in a safe and friendly environment".

"When I was a teenager I was attacked by 5 men in a park close to my home. There was no reason and no logic behind the assault. It took me a long time to realise and accept that sometimes you are just unlucky. Although not badly hurt, the experience shook me up, damaging my confidence. I found that the Ju-jitsu and Karate I had trained in did nothing for me. I turned to other Martial Arts, spending years experimenting with many styles, but always finding faults when it came to the real world application... Eventually, through working in the security industry I found Krav Maga. The realistic training methods, practical and effective techniques and the philosophy/methodology behind it make complete sense. I quickly learnt how I can defend myself and others... I know Krav Maga works."
"I teach because it seals in the knowledge I need to defence myself and family, I teach because a friend of mine was killed in a violent and senseless assault, I teach so that others (like you) don't get hurt or experience the pain of an attack or it´s devastating effects."
Learn Krav Maga before you need it. I may have been unlucky to have been assaulted in the past, but I believe that the more I train, and the more I know, then the luckier I will be next time".

With my training you get what you need, and what you get, you get to the extreme.
I am not a team or global organisation devoted to an ever expanding empire of pop up dojos with a grading every time your enter the room. Nor am I going to sell you links to YouTube clips and say you are in a fast track program to success. I am one man, a Krav Maga instructor and former Bodyguard with a personal mission to be the instructor and mentor that I wish I had when I started this journey over 20 years ago. I deeply care for those in my charge. I welcome people to reach out to me, it's my desire to train those who need it, often people who cannot get to a self defence class or those who need a little extra help and focused instruction.
Krav Maga is recognised worldwide as one of the ultimate forms of self defence that is suitable for the street. My online classes are NOT pre-made videos. I will teach directly to you either in person with traditional one-to-one tutoring or by use live steaming video conferencing. No matter the method of learning, every student begins with the basic principles of Krav Maga and installing a positive mindset with a logical approach to problem solving so that you know how to work through difficult situations without panicking. In addition to teaching every single physical technique in Krav Maga I will advice you to creating plans so that you know how to react and handling dangerous issues, end a confrontation, and seizing an opportunity.
Meet your instructor
"I love what I do... Am I a teacher, an instructor, a coach? I prefer to see myself as a leader and a guide. I´ve been doing this since 2011 and have trained hundreds of people. My aim with every client is to eventually make myself unnecessary, to teach each of them so well that they ingrain the self defence knowledge and no longer need my training. My style and methods will lead you though the possibilities, I will demonstrate and explain to you movements and tactics that you are already capable of doing. You can learn effective self defence and you will experience real Krav Maga, you just need a guide."... Benjamin Gibson, Krav Maga Instructor in Stavanger, Sandnes and Online.
