The principles are a logical approach to problems solving...
Krav Maga is a system that uses a set of principles. These are guidelines for the practitioners so that they know the protocol in dangerous situations. a The principles are used to describe methods or tactics rather than a detailed description of a combative movement.
Below are the two sets of Krav Maga principles that are used to instruct when to apply Krav Maga and how to use it in a aggressive situation.

When to use your skills...
Avoid: Where possible, do not fight. Our first rule in Krav Maga is to avoid the danger. Walk or run away as necessary and don't put yourself into situations where you are at physical risk.
Comply: Is it a robbery? a threat of harm? simply hand over what they want. Keys, money, mobile phone, no object or possession is worth your life. But sometimes an opponent simply wants to cause harm, in this situation NEVER comply. I know it can be tempting to allow yourself to be beaten, thinking that if you submit quickly and let the attacker win you will save yourself from a more severe beating. Do not allow this... Keep in mind one strike can kill!
Apply Krav Maga: If necessary fight for your life. You can gauge the situation and use force as necessary, essentially this is down to you. Do whatever is necessary to stop the attacker and allow you time to escape to safety.

The key principles of Krav Maga
1. Stop the immediate threat: First you must identify what the threat is and assess the risk level. Then react to it. Remember that Krav Maga is based on natural reactions, so your first response is often the correct one.
2. Counter-attack as quickly as possible: Simultaneous defence and attack is something we strive for in Krav Maga. Although a pre-emptive strike may be needed. Using techniques and tactics taught to you in the class apply Krav Maga combatives as necessary.
3. Disengage: At some point you must stop striking and detach yourself from the combat situation. We normally say this is when the opponent is unwilling or unable to continue.
4. Scan for next threat: Create distance from the opponent, scan around to ensure that there is no additional threat or that the opponent is not immediately recovering and returning.
5. Escape to safety: Get away from that environment as quickly and safely as possible.
Additional note:
The principles of Krav Maga don't have to be limited to self defence situations. They can be a template for everyday problem solving activities.
