10. Karate
The first thing I have to do is pop a bubble here: The Black Belt is not a signal of excellence a symbol of an expert in the style. The true meaning of a Black Belt is to show that the practitioner has mastered the basics. The Dan levels (which are the gradings after the black), are the real indication that a practitioner has any real ability.
Typically the Black Belt will take 4 years to achieve... 4 YEARS?!! This makes Karate instantly ridiculous and impractical to learn for self defence. from day 1 in Krav Maga you'll be better prepared for a self defence situation. Karate cannot compare to the realistic and practical nature.
Karate is also a "hard" system. I am not referring to difficulty, but more the rigid structure and formality of the style. It lacks specific training in many areas of modern self defence, such as rape defence, multiple attackers and firearms disarms.
But, it is a great style for the traditional practitioner.
